Harveys Gala Fun Run is 25 Years young!
It might have been the Queens Diamond Jubilee on June 5th however on Sunday 17th June 2012 we are celebrating our own Silver Jubilee, 25 years of the Harveys Gala Fun Run.
To make this years race really special we would like to invite anyone who has participated over the last 24 years to come along and either run or walk the route again!
A list of the participants and results will be posted the window of Harvey Mapmakers on Main Street Doune to refresh your memory. We would be delighted to hear your stories of races past, which we can post on www.doune.co.
The routes are 6k or 2.5k and can be walked or run by all age groups. Registration is at 9.30 am in Moray park, race starts at 10.00am with refreshments after the race.

Don’t just sport your trainers for sport relief get them out again for the big event of the year!!
Santa Claus and mulled wine are just two of the highlights of Doune’s bustling Christmas Fair which starts the run in to the festive season with local stalls, music and much more.
One of the best nights to be had in Doune with film stars, monsters, cartoon characters and world famous figures gracing the village to raise money for the local Fire and Rescue Service.
Celebrating the filming of Monty Python’sHoly Grail at Doune Castle, a crazy crew of fanatic medieval knights and wenches descend on the village for zany fun and frollocks.
The Doune Gala is the village’s summer showcase event which brings together residents and visitors of all ages and from all walks of life. It’s a great day with loads to see and do.
DOUNE GALA WEEKEND 2012
Doune Gala Day takes place on Saturday 16th June, 12.30pm – 4.30pm and the theme is “DOUNE THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD” starting 12.30pm at The Cross when the Fancy Dress entrants will be judged. The parade from The Cross to Moray Park will start at 12.45pm, led by Callander Brass.
The Gala Day will be officially opened at 1pm, with crowning of the Gala Queen followed by announcement of the Fancy Dress winners and winner of the best window display. Our Guests of Honour this year are Mr and Mrs James Innes.
After the official business, everyone can enjoy the rest of the afternoon with a plethora of activities and events:
Doune Gala Duck Race – Sunday 17th June
The ducks will make their way from the Castle Pool to The Pier, starting at 2pm. First, second and third prizes of £50/£30/£20 with lots of runners-up prizes and a booby prize for the last duck past the line! Great prizes, great fun – “ducks” for sale at the Gala Day.
The whole event is hosted by Doune Gala Committee. The main purpose of the Gala is to raise money to give our senior citizens a Christmas party, but it also costs a fair bit to run the event every year!
Gala Day provides the opportunity for many local groups and businesses to raise funds for their own specific causes whilst giving everyone in the village a fun day out! If you have any comments, or are interested in getting involved and helping with the committee, please email
