Distance: 40 miles, estimated drive time: 2 hours

Starting at the Doune Information and Heritage Centre start northwards towards Callander. In Callander turn left onto A821 for Aberfoyle and the Trossachs.

You will soon be driving along the shoreline of Loch Venacher. Drive through a small hamlet, Brig O' Turk. You will pass the turning to Loch Katrine, Glasgow's pioneering water supply where steam cruises are available. Head through Duke's Pass into Aberfoyle.

Turn right out of Aberfoyle onto the A81 towards Glasgow. After a mile turn right to Gartmore (view of Ben Lomond).  At the far end of the village turn left towards Glasgow again and head for a mile before turning left on to the B835 to Buchlyvie (you can view Flanders Moss).

Turn left onto the A811 and three miles on you will pass through Arnprior.

Turn left onto the B8034 towards the Port of Menteith. The road runs along the shoreline of the loch and you can see the island which is home to Inchmahome priory (seasonal boat tours to the Historic Scotland site available).

Turn right onto the A873 and travel for a mile and turn left onto the A81 north. You will pass Loch Rusky and turn right down the B8032 towards Doune. This road will follow the beautiful River Teith all the way to the Teith Bridge at Doune. Handprints
