This is a community based project.............
A research project led by the University of Stirling , Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (NMAHP RU) is working with 12 to 18-year-olds and their parents to get young people with asthma more active.
Collaborating with Asthma UK Scotland, the Universities of Dundee, Edinburgh and Newcastle the project aims to develop strategies to reduce the barriers to activity for teenagers with asthma. Children with asthma are less likely to be active than their peers and they often state their asthma as the cause.
Please contact JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING before the end of February 2012 if you and or your children would like to be involved.
The 18-month study has been awarded £225,000 in funding. Artists, behavioural experts and 3D animators are working together to educate teenagers with asthma by allowing them to visualise the differences between asthma and breathlessness, safety issues, their ability to be active and their motivation. An activity plan will be agreed for each child between parents, health professionals and teachers.
A consultative user group is being recruited. If you are a health professional or a school staff member involved in asthma care, or a parent of or young person aged 12-18 and would like to be involved in this consultative user group please contact JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING before the end of February 2012.
Submitted by a local family who suffer with asthma.
